Neil Hogan

Drummer and Educator

I first picked up a pair of drumsticks aged 4, when I was given a Muppets drum kit for Christmas. I loved bashing away, pretending to be Animal! When I turned 11, I asked if I could take drum lessons and soon after starting lessons I was invited to play for the school band. I was hooked! From then on, I knew I wanted to be a drummer!

My school had a great music department, which kept me very busy. Throughout my time at school I played in the all the school bands and orchestras, gaining an incredible amount of experience for someone so young. It was through the school that I got my first taste of recording in a commercial studio, aged just 16.

I started drumming professionally in 1993. In those early days I focused primarily on theatre work. I was fortunate enough to perform in many of the major theatres around the country playing for shows such as Godspell, Crazy For You, Carousel, Fiddler On The Roof, Oklahoma! Me and My Girl, The Boyfriend, Jesus Christ Superstar, The Wizard of Oz, The Wiz, Annie and A Slice of Saturday Night to name a few. In total, I worked on well over 100 different shows for a number of different production companies. In 1998 I was invited to join the UK touring production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, for which I was the principal drummer for four years, playing well over 2000 shows!

Alongside my theatre work, I played regularly for a small jazz ensemble, a rock and roll band, a wedding band and supported several solo artists and comedians.

I have always enjoyed studio work. I love the creative process, being part of something new and exciting! I have extensive experience playing in commercial studios over the years, and now, with the power of modern technology, I’m fortunate to have my own home recording studio, enabling me to record tracks to a professional standard with a very fast turnaround, and at a fraction of the cost of using a big commercial studio.
